Can Amazon SFP orders ship from a 3PL warehouse?

Yes. Amazon does not require you to use your own warehouse for Seller Fulfilled Prime; its FAQ says you can store inventory "wherever works for you," including third-party solutions. The catch is that the SFP performance bar stays attached to your seller account, so the 3PL has to operate on your behalf at Prime-grade speed: six days a week, same-day handoff, and Buy Shipping on nearly every order.

What to hold the 3PL to

Ask for the same four things in writing: Saturday pickup, same-day handoff before the cutoffs, label purchase through Buy Shipping, and reporting that matches Amazon's own measurements.

FAQ

Questions

Does Amazon require SFP sellers to self-fulfill from their own space? +

No. Amazon's SFP FAQ states: "You are not required to use warehouses for Seller Fulfilled Prime orders. Some sellers choose to use available storage space in their homes or use third-party solutions. You can store your inventory wherever works for you and enables you to meet the performance requirements" (Amazon, sell.amazon.com "Seller Fulfilled Prime," accessed 2026-10-15). A 3PL is an explicitly acceptable route.

Does the 3PL need Amazon's approval? +

No. SFP eligibility is tied to your seller account, not to a fixed list of approved warehouses. The 3PL does not get separately approved by Amazon; it just has to help your account meet the program's metrics. What matters is whether the 3PL can ship six days a week, meet the daily cutoff, and use Amazon Buy Shipping for nearly all Prime orders (Amazon Seller Central, G202072550, accessed 2026-10-15).

What should a 3PL be able to do to support SFP? +

Four things, at minimum: operate six days a week including Saturday pickup; receive orders before the 2:00 p.m. weekday and 10:30 a.m. weekend cutoff and hand them to the carrier the same day; buy labels through Amazon Buy Shipping so tracking flows back automatically; and maintain the on-time and tracking results Amazon holds your account to (Amazon Seller Central, "Seller Fulfilled Prime program policy," G201812300, accessed 2026-10-15).

Can the 3PL handle heavy items under SFP? +

Yes, as long as the 3PL's normal operating band covers your box weights. Heavy items fall in the extra large SFP tier, which has the loosest speed targets of the three tiers, but the carrier still has to accept the weight and dimensions. A 3PL that works in the 50 to 149 lb band and mixes parcel carriers is the practical fit for heavy SFP.

Who owns the performance if the 3PL misses? +

You do. Amazon measures and enforces SFP metrics against your account, not the warehouse's. That means the audit trail matters: you need the 3PL to confirm ship dates and tracking through Buy Shipping so a warehouse miss does not silently become your late-shipment metric.

Does ShippingCow support SFP? +

ShippingCow is a US 3PL for heavy parcels of 50 to 149 lb per box, with warehouses across the US, and Logistar (the company that operates it) is an Amazon SPN official service provider and an Amazon FIST carrier. Whether a specific account runs SFP depends on the SKU mix and the performance commitments, which is what a Cost Audit is for.
