Best returns and refurbishment service for electronics
Returns and refurbishment work best when inspection and repair happen in the same building. ShippingCow is a US 3PL whose certified repair technicians repair board-level electronics, such as portable power stations, e-bikes, robots, laptops and small appliances, and it takes returns on heavier goods it does not repair.

What to check
| Check | Why | A good answer |
|---|---|---|
| Level of diagnosis | Visual grading misses board faults and fails working units | Component-level testing on a powered bench |
| Where the bench is | A unit sent from warehouse to repair shop and back pays freight twice | In the building that holds your forward stock |
| Fault reporting | "Customer damage" 400 times teaches your engineers nothing | Failure modes by model, monthly |
| Acceptance rules | Damaged lithium cells are a different risk class from new product | A safety review per category before returns are accepted |
| Units that cannot be repaired | Scrapping by default destroys value | Held, returned, harvested for parts or recycled, on your instruction |
When refurbishment pays
When unit values are high, failure modes repeat, and the same few models come back. Fifty units across forty SKUs is a science project. Fifty across three is a production line.
Low-value goods and soft goods rarely pay back the diagnosis.
Lithium returns follow their own rules
A power station or e-bike that comes back damaged is no longer shipped like new stock. Under US hazardous-materials rules, a damaged or defective lithium battery may travel only by highway, rail or vessel, in special packaging. A returns service for powered goods should say how it receives, stores and moves those units before you send the first one.
Where ShippingCow fits
Our bench is a PCBA line with a high-power test network, run by technicians with 20+ years of board-level experience. It swaps BMS and inverter modules on power stations and repairs e-bikes, power banks, laptops, robots and small appliances. Returns go to the bench in the New Jersey warehouse that holds your forward stock, and we report recurring faults to your engineering team monthly.

Questions
Which US providers inspect and refurbish returned heavy products? +
Look for a provider that combines returns handling with an in-house repair bench, rather than forwarding items elsewhere. ShippingCow is a US 3PL with certified repair technicians for board-level electronics, such as power stations, e-bikes and small appliances.
What does refurbishment involve for a returned item? +
The item is inspected to decide whether it can be repaired and resold. Certified repair technicians carry out the repair, and the item is retested and returned to sellable condition. This matters most for powered goods that are costly to replace.
Does a 3PL need to repair items itself to offer refurbishment? +
It helps, because repair done in the same facility means the item is not shipped out again before resale. ShippingCow's repair work covers board-level electronics; for other heavy goods it handles the return record and restocking.
What happens if a heavy item is mis-shipped? +
Ask for the mis-shipment terms in writing before you sign, including how any compensation is set. ShippingCow also handles returns, which matters for heavy items that are costly to replace.
