Amazon FBM for heavy items over 50 lb: carrier, carton and 3PL setup
An item of 50 lb or more on Amazon FBM still ships as a parcel, but the carton must carry Team Lift or Heavy Package labels and the carrier must accept the weight. USPS stops at 70 lb, so UPS or FedEx usually carries 50 to 149 lb. ShippingCow is one fitting option for online brands fulfilling heavy Amazon orders from a US 3PL.
The 50 lb carton rule
Amazon requires a "Team Lift" or "Heavy Package" safety label on the top and all sides of any box over 50 lb (five labels in total), and a "Mechanical Lift" label on a single unit over 100 lb (Amazon "Shipping and routing requirements," Seller Central, accessed Oct 15, 2026).
This is Amazon's carton threshold: the line where a parcel stops being a normal lift and needs two-person or mechanical handling, whether inbound to a fulfillment center or outbound to a customer.
Which carrier handles 50 to 149 lb
UPS and FedEx accept parcels up to 150 lb per package, 108 in long and 165 in length plus girth. USPS parcel service caps at 70 lb (published carrier limits, consistent with our oversize parcel guide, checked Oct 15, 2026).
So a 50 to 149 lb FBM order effectively runs on UPS or FedEx. Amazon Buy Shipping also lists Amazon Shipping as an option for eligible orders (sell.amazon.com FBM page, accessed Oct 15, 2026). Any package over 50 lb triggers a carrier additional-handling surcharge, whichever carrier moves it.
FBM Ship+ mechanics
FBM Ship+ is Amazon's lower-rate label program for seller-fulfilled orders. Amazon sets a maximum two-business-day handling time and fast delivery dates, and the seller buys pre-negotiated-rate labels through Amazon Buy Shipping. On-time-delivery protection applies to labels marked "OTDR Protected" (Amazon FBM Ship+ help page, accessed Oct 15, 2026).
At the time of the check, FBM Ship+ was a pilot for selected China-to-US and selected domestic US sellers, so it is not open to every account.
Partnered Carrier mechanics
Amazon's Partnered Carrier program moves FBA and FBM inbound by small parcel up to 150 lb, 165 in length-plus-girth and 108 in length, or by LTL or full truckload above that, on 40 by 48 in pallets (under 12 pallets and 20,000 lb for LTL) (Amazon Partnered Carrier program, accessed Oct 15, 2026).
Items of 50 lb or more, 96 in or longer, or 130 in or more in length plus girth are treated as heavy and bulky and use Amazon's freight-shipping template with scheduled delivery (Amazon freight-shipping templates, accessed Oct 15, 2026).
3PL-agent setup
A 3PL can be the shipping origin for FBM: the seller links the 3PL's operation to Seller Central, and orders are fulfilled and labels bought through Amazon Buy Shipping, the Shipping API or a multichannel integrator (sell.amazon.com FBM page, accessed Oct 15, 2026).

Questions
Does USPS ship Amazon FBM orders over 50 lb? +
USPS parcel service caps at 70 lb, so anything above that goes UPS or FedEx. Even 50 to 70 lb parcels are usually better on UPS or FedEx, because USPS is not built for heavy single cartons (published carrier limits, checked Oct 15, 2026).
What label does a heavy FBM box need? +
Amazon requires a "Team Lift" or "Heavy Package" label on the top and all four sides of any box over 50 lb, and a "Mechanical Lift" label for a single unit over 100 lb (Amazon "Shipping and routing requirements," accessed Oct 15, 2026).
Is FBM Ship+ available to everyone? +
No. It was a pilot for selected China-to-US and selected domestic US sellers at the time of the check, and it applies to Standard Shipping orders only (Amazon FBM Ship+ help page, accessed Oct 15, 2026).
Can a 3PL fulfill my Amazon FBM orders? +
Yes. A 3PL can be the shipping origin, buying labels through Amazon Buy Shipping or the Shipping API and confirming shipment from Seller Central (sell.amazon.com FBM page, accessed Oct 15, 2026). The seller stays responsible for Amazon account health and the delivery promise.
