Best 3PL for grills and smokers
Grills split at the 150 lb parcel line. Full-size pellet grills ship boxed at about 160 to 220 lb and a ceramic kamado weighs about 280 lb before packing, so they go by LTL freight with lift-gate delivery, while portable grills and griddles under 150 lb ship by parcel with heavy surcharges. A grill 3PL has to run both, or you need two partners.

Freight for full-size grills
Over 150 lb a grill moves by LTL freight, usually curbside with a lift gate and an appointment. The costs that surprise brands are around delivery: recteq, which ships by parcel and LTL, charges a refused freight delivery both ways plus a 15% restocking fee. Freight class now follows measured density for many commodities since the NMFC moved to density-based classes on July 19, 2025, so accurate weights and dimensions at the warehouse matter.
Parcel for portable grills and griddles
Under 150 lb a grill ships by UPS or FedEx, and the size lines decide the price. Every box over 50 lb pays Additional Handling; a box over 48 in on its longest side or 105 in in length plus girth pays it on size; over 130 in or 110 lb it becomes a Large Package or Oversize billed at a 90 lb minimum. The Sportsman Portable's box measures 131 in in length plus girth, one inch over that line.
Where ShippingCow fits
ShippingCow ships one-carton products of 50 to 149 lb, so portable grills, griddles and smaller smokers in that band fit, shipped from the closest of New Brunswick NJ, Ontario CA and Missouri City TX.
Full-size pellet grills and kamados over 150 lb are freight, and we are not the pick for them; use a 3PL with an LTL desk and residential appointment scheduling for those SKUs.
What to ask a grill 3PL
1. Which of my models ship parcel and which ship freight, by packed weight and size?
2. For freight, who books the LTL carrier, schedules the appointment and handles lift-gate delivery?
3. What happens, and who pays, when a buyer refuses a freight delivery?
4. For parcel models, which boxes cross 130 in in length plus girth, and can the carton be resized?
5. How do you measure and record each SKU's packed density for freight class?

Questions
What is the best 3PL for grills? +
It depends on the grill. For full-size pellet grills and kamados over 150 lb you need a 3PL with an LTL desk and residential appointment scheduling. For portable grills and griddles of 50 to 149 lb, a heavy-parcel 3PL that prices the size lines well and ships from close to your buyers.
Do grills ship by UPS or by freight? +
By weight and size. Under 150 lb, 108 in long and 165 in in length plus girth a grill can ship by UPS or FedEx. Most full-size pellet grills and kamados are heavier and go by LTL freight.
How much does a pellet grill weigh boxed? +
Full-size models run about 160 to 220 lb boxed: the Traeger Ironwood ships at 211 lb and the Pit Boss Navigator 1150 at 216 lb. Portable models such as the Pit Boss Sportsman ship under 90 lb.
Does a portable grill pay oversize charges? +
It can. The Pit Boss Sportsman Portable's box measures 131 in in length plus girth, over the 130 in line, so it bills as a Large Package or Oversize at a 90 lb minimum even though it weighs 88 lb.
What freight class is a grill? +
Measure it. Since July 19, 2025 many NMFC classes follow the shipment's density, so the class depends on the packed weight and size. Ask the carrier to class your packed unit before you quote.
Who handles lift-gate delivery for a grill? +
The LTL carrier, booked by you or your 3PL. Curbside lift-gate delivery is common for grills; inside delivery and assembly are separate services.
